Too "Slippery" to Blog!
Sorry, as always, I've been out for a while. But to tell you the truth, this time this wasn't my fault.
If you are from India, you might have heard about the disastrous time, the hills of northern India, have had! With extemely high rainfall and extremely extensive construction and, not to forget, extremely poor drainage, many cities( including ours) have suffered "Extreme" losses. In my town alone, over 85 houses were affected by large scale landslides.
Many villages were destroyed by cloudbursts. Many others by landslides.
With no electricity, no water and extemely limited supply of ration, seroiusly, it was hard to blog.
Anyways, I'm and for that matter WE are fine.
And hope to remain so for a while.
Will write soon.
Buenos Dias.

Heated Discussion!
Its been quite a long time since I wrote. Sorry for the interval.
Now, you might have got an idea from my previous posts, that I live quite close to the Himalayas. Thus, consequentially, it should be a pleasant climate, if not cold, around the places I live in. but not that I exaggerate, I FEEL LIKE I AM SITTING INSIDE A FREAKING STOVE!!!
(For those who can't decipher from the sudden change of case, though i don't feel like telling, but it means I'm shouting!)
You would expect may to be quite a nice time to come to the hills, and your expectations wouldn't go amiss. Even now when you come to my place, or some other very similar one, it would still be okay for you since you would be stepping out into a stove, from out of a darn volcano!
Not only has the global temperature risen by a great extent, it has had much of it wrath on the South east Asia (May be we did something wrong to displease the gods, nothing seems to be right, even the T-20 world cup...).
Anyways, all that can be done from our side is to express concern on the rising global temperatures and if possible take some simple and efficient steps to counter the effects of heat, it might include planting trees, or tending the ones planted, or even collecting the rainwater whenever possible... even if that is possible only four or five times a year now.
Any ways, Keep cool and keep your cool! Make your heads heavy because heat may make you light-headed soon!
My HOT wishes,
Abhishek.

A pledge worth making
I've finally decided to keep up with the job of spreading awareness among the peoples of the world and singn in more frequently. I've finally decided on some hardcore action... The world will only change if we want it to change, not by its own will. Thus we need to act... and act now!
What do I mean by this hardcore action thing...?
For this I need a little help from you people...
What I want you to do is.. to spread a small message through whatever means you have with you... be it twitter... facebook... myspace... gmail... yahoo or any other means.. it is up to you people to see that we survive... You survive...!
The message goes as follows:
"I, a member of the wide community of humans, who live on the planet earth, which we regard as our mother, and respect as a mother, hereby declare that today, I have become aware of my social, environmental, and ethical responsibility for the conservation of the planet and thus i, considering myself and relatively mentally developed creature, take on the responsibility of the conservation of all flora and fauna of the whole world, and thus ensure my own survival... and hence make sure that the world becomes a better place to live in!"
Will write sooner or later!
Abhishek.

'Mom's Birthday'
Sunday, 11 April 2010

Dear readers,
It’s been a long time since I last wrote. I had been out of the city for a short while... to Nainital. It’s a city built around a Tal (lake). The city is known for schools and hotels, both of which are present in copious amounts. But I doubt that the city will not be known for its cleanliness in near future. A commendable effort has been made towards making the city clean and green there in Nainital. Named the ‘Butterfly’ scheme, the effort aims at making the city cleaner by removal of the most fatal enemy of the soil, Polythene. The program functions through the collection of poly-bags from the city dwellers from there houses and then their dumping in special garbage boxes that are scattered throughout the town and all this at bare minimum of expense. Clearly, the people responsible for this effort have plenty of grey cells and will get both environmental awareness and cleanliness through this effort.
As I woke up in my bed at Nainital and opened up the curtains to look at the beautiful lake, I was astonished to see large whirlpools on the surface. I rubbed my eyes in order to ensure that I was not hallucinating, but still, the typhoons were intact. I thought that it might be some sort of mirage and let the matter rest.
The next day when I was on a stroll with two of my local friends I had made, on the Thandi sadak (Cold road) that runs along the lake, I saw the whirlpools again but they seemed less of whirlpools now and seemed to be large circular disturbances made as if some creature was breathing from the depths of the lake. Mesmerized, II asked my friend about the strange phenomenon. It was then when I came to know of the hi-tech reality behind the veil, the municipal commission of Nainital, troubled with the problems like lake continuously getting polluted and the fauna in lake dying, nearly a year back placed some highly sophisticated machinery inside the lake that maintains the oxygen levels as well as cleaned the lake once of all the garbage with further help from the 'butterfly' scheme. Appreciable work my friends! Truly commendable!
Regards,
Abhishek.

Now... or never!!!
Wednesday, 20 January 2010
In the 1970s there was increasing awareness that estimates of global temperatures showed cooling since 1945. Of those scientific papers considering climate trends over the 21st century, only 10% inclined towards future cooling, while most papers predicted future warming. The general public had little awareness of carbon dioxide's effects on climate, but Science News in May 1959 forecast a 25% increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide in the 150 years from 1850 to 2000, with a consequent warming trend. (The actual increase in this period was 29%.) Paul R. Ehrlich mentioned climate change from greenhouse gases in 1968. By the time the idea of global cooling reached the public press in the mid-1970s temperatures had stopped falling, and there was concern in the climatological community about carbon dioxide's warming effects. In response to such reports, the World Meteorological Organization issued a warning in June 1976 that a very significant warming of global climate was probable.
Currently there are some concerns about the possible cooling effects of a slowdown or shutdown of thermohaline circulation, which might be provoked by an increase of fresh water mixing into the North Atlantic due to glacial melting. The probability of this occurring is generally considered to be very low, and the IPCC notes, "even in models where the THC weakens, there is still a warming over Europe. For example, in all AOGCM integrations where the radiative forcing is increasing, the sign of the temperature change over north-west Europe is positive."
You see, the world might not be heating up but cooling instead...
hope I'll write soon,
Abhishek.
